Fool's Companion began in 1999 with Michael “Mickey” Tam as its sole musician and songwriter:

“From an early age, I have always been fascinated with music and its impact on my life. I began playing the piano at the age of 6, and was privileged with the opportunity to study violin and guitar as well. In 1999, following my exposure to classical music, I began experimenting with rock/alternative song-writing – I worked hard to stretch myself creatively and generate different ideas to challenge both myself as a writer, as well as the audience.

Recently, I made the decision to return Fool’s Companion to its original solo-artist format. I feel much happier – that I am better able to focus my energy on the music…on the art, without having to deal with the pitfalls of the industry. Thank you to everyone for your support over the past few years and to those who made the upcoming record possible – I could not have done it without you, and I hope you find as much in these songs as I have. Welcome.”

With influences like Third Eye Blind, Tonic, and Dishwalla, Fool's Companion’s 2008 debut album release (self-titled) features the high quality of 90's alternative lyric-writing, blended with modern guitar and piano-driven anthems. Recorded, produced, and mixed in Cleveland, Ohio, and mastered by Andrew Mendelson of Nashville’s Georgetown Masters, these songs engulf a wide range of contrast both in sound, as well as subject matter. From the true California-Pop sound in “Spring Break” to the culturally-motivated tune, “The American March,” each track features memorable melodies and equally impressive singles potential, without sacrificing intellectual credibility. In February 2008, shortly before to the album’s release, Fool’s Companion will feature its upcoming music in Alternative Addiction’s “Next Big Thing.”

Mickey continues to write today and manages the band on the side through avenues like the Fool’s Companion website, www.myspace.com/foolscompanion. He is hopeful and confident that his music will make a difference in the lives of many others and continues to work towards a steady music career.
