A.J. Steel
Bio
After playing in bands for most of his professional life, A.J.Steel has dived head first into the solo arena. Was it choice? Was it meant to be? Was it by accident or strategic planning?
The truth is it was a case of what now? After 2 years with Blue Granite, 3 years with Sujin and 3 years with The Monkey Face the time was right when The Monkey Face recently split after releasing one album and an EP.
As the songwriter for these acts A.J. decided that it was time for the future to be in his hands and ceased this opportunity to go it his way, and it hasn't slowed him down. Paparazzi made it into the top ten in the 2007 Music Oz Awards, his first video has been filmed, and his new single 'Reach Out’ has been added to the GYO Upload 2 compilation released through Foghorn Records.
A.J’s music is predominately a blend of David Bowie and U2 with a heavy Pop influence that is growing a strong following. Where some of the previous tracks have been quite dark, and this emotion is still plays a big part of his styles, this new sound and style is more uplifting, with tracks like Reach Out exemplifying this point.
For A.J. it's our imperfections that make us interesting. For A.J. humans are a strange breed, capable of acts of love and hatred within the same beat.
The future is exciting for A.J, with a new sound, new songs and a fresh approach to his song writing it’s hard to sit still. But perhaps the most exciting thing of all for A.J.Steel is that he has finally found his spot as an artist and a songwriter. He’s come home.
