Joseph Sheu is the quintessential jack-of-all-trades when it comes to composing and producing. Joseph’s musical education includes both formal and practical aspects that entail a BM in Music from California State University Northridge along with a significant amount of time spent around L.A.’s top session musicians. Mr. Sheu’s versatility and dedication to excellence allows him to compose quality music over a broad range of styles and genres including Jazz, R&B, Gospel, Hip Hop, Dance, Techno, and Rock.
Talent alone is not the only secret to Joe’s success. As a young composer and guitarist, he befriended world-renowned Hammond B3 organist William “Smitty” Smith. Smitty immediately recognized Joe’s talent and soon became a mentor to him. Thus, Joe spent the next several years getting his education in the studio by assisting Smitty while participating in some of L.A.’s top recording sessions. Mr. Sheu was privileged to work with the likes of Brenda Russell, Michael McDonald and renowned TV composer Mike Post.
While completing his formal music education in Jazz Studies from California State University at Northridge, he was elected as a member of the award-winning Jazz “A” Band. Continuing to hone his skills, Joe studied guitar privately with Ted Green, Robben Ford, Grant Geissman, and session ace Carl Verheyen.
Mr. Sheu’s recent credits in television include composing with Emmy Award Winning Television Composer, Richard Wolf on the WB animated hit series Static Shock and the new syndicated hit show Celebrity Justice. Mr. Sheu produced tracks for NBC’s Extra and Bachelorette as well as the Sharon Osbourne Show, Ellen Degeneres Show, Larry Elder Show, Elimidate, UPN's America's Top Model, Tyra Banks Show, MTV's Yo Momma, The Hills and ABC's The View. He has also had his music featured in the independent film, Getting Hal as well as Twentieth Century Fox's Dr. Dolittle 3. Mr Sheu’s music has also appeared on various infomercials for the High-Desert community.
Along with producing music for television, film, and independent artists, Joe has recorded and performed with Grammy award-winning Gospel songwriter Quincy Fielding and Gospel artist Tim “Bishop” Brown. Joe also works with the Phoenix House instructing youth in the production and performance of music.
