The Fog People hail from Seattle, with NYC-transplant and NYU film school grad Michael Hayes White handling production duties. The Fog People have contributed music to several local video projects, including “Cherub”, where they are credited with the series theme song as well as several featured pieces of music. The Fog People’s music also turns up in sets by local experimental belly dance troupe Hands of Kali.
The Fog People have just released their debut album: City of Night. City of Night is a concept album, a film noir story revolving around three characters and their descent into the fetish underground and party culture. “I think cinematically, not musically, so from the start the album was pretty dramatic.” says Michael Hayes White. “What we made sure to do however was to keep the groove going. This is a story you can dance to.”
To help embellish the world created in their album, the Fog People invited several Seattle luminaries to guest on the album, most notably on the title track, where no less than 13 singers appear. “We were going for a sort of 'We are the World' for the freaks out there.”
While the Fog People are happy to flirt with labels about their music (goth, electronica, ambient, noir), they are also liberated by being outcasts to all of them. “We're not laptop music makers, so if we want to bring in a marimba for a song, we just go ahead and do that. If we want some horns, we roll those in too. We're more concerned about being true to the experience of the album, and that means dark and sexy.”
