Lyrically driven with lots of imagery, this music is full of beautiful chord changes and melodies. I do all lead vocals and backing vocals as well as accompany myself on piano. The other primary instrument is guitar, but there are some orchestral elements in several of the songs in my new collection, Rain on the Roof. My music has been compared to Sarah MacLachlan, Norah Jones and Carole King and Carly Simon. Check out the songs on www.margaretmacdonald.com or www.myspace.com/margaretmacdonald

SONG BY SONG:
RAIN ON THE ROOF: blues-y rhythm, mainly piano and cello, about a relationship that's ended and trying to forget about it.
STILL 21 IN MY HEAD: picked guitar, James Taylor-esque, great song for a baby boomer film. Everyone has a certain glory age they tend to see themselves at, no matter how old they actually are. This song has a twinkle in its eye.
I KNOW YOU LOVE ME: more of an R&B feel, rhythmically. About relationship that’s been through ups and downs, missing some passion, how to rekindle the flame, etc.
CRY FOR YOU: Haunting piano ballad about a teenager who dies young and what the mother is going through
ALL I WANT NOW: Piano ballad about returning to where one used to live after many years and seeing old flame, realizing that they’ve loved this person and place all along. Has a kind of folk-country feel.
LEAP OF FAITH: Lush production, harmonies. About seeing someone one loves secretly and trying to get up the courage to tell that person how you feel.
GLAD YOU DO: Piano and cello. About a somewhat unbalanced person in a relationship with a steady, more normal person, not asking to be saved but glad that person stays with you.
THOMASINA: More upbeat ballad, more guitar in this one, kind of crossover country feel, about a girl who wants to be a pop star and the price of it all.
HOMECOMING: Piano ballad about coming home after a long time away and wishing one had never left in the first place, all the emotions tied in with his.
PROMISES: Piano/chamber strings. About a long-term relationship, still loving, remembering first days of love, etc. Nice song for a wedding or anniversary scene, for example.
CHILD: Piano ballad about the emotions tied to having a baby and the fact that you’d do anything for your child. However, the chorus on its own could be used in any situation, i.e. “I would do anything in the world for you, run through fire or a storm, a hundred miles through the desert for you, it’s all for you.”
