My music is usually orchestral, and often highly colorful. I tend to hear music in colors and treat each instrument family as sort of a blotch of paint on a palette.
Melody is also important to me. This doesn't mean I can't do ambient music. But music with a strong melodic focal point is where my best work comes out, I think. I'm also a harmony nut, in that I'm just way too in love with harmonic modulations. I guess what all of this amounts to is that Debussy was a big influence on my education. And the likes of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith were my introductions.
I'm also a little too in love with the overtone series and lydian harmonies at the moment. In non-musical terms, think Thomas Newman or Bjork or James Horner.

| I suppose, given the way lydian modality moves me (perhaps in excess), my music would fit well with scenes of longing or irresolute moments. Moments of tension or forward movement. A scene in particular might be that shot of Lester Burnham in the movie, American Beauty, where he's jogging and becoming more fit. The overtone modality would then affect a certain feeling of both hope and dread all at once.
