The music is gritty, soulful, often funny and unsettling that welds together elements of rock and roll, country, folk, roots, rockabilly, blues and anything else that's needed and can be dragged from the great Americana scrap heap.
Certainly my goal would be to create what the director required for the film. For instance, I could see my music being utilized to effectively set a mood or tone in a scene of introspection or wild abandon. Or to bring out an atmospheric tone and have the aural equivalent of wind swept highways, or the desolate towns who's residents long ago left not to ever return. Or portray the celebration of arriving in the big city after the war and dancing all night with road-house and whisky-soaked abandon. Whatever is needed that is real.
My songs tell resonant stories that are testimonials to desolation, dislocation, impossible love, resilience, beauty, valiant stupidity, and while always trying hard to avoid it--transcendence.
or just good toe-tappin music...one or the other.
