Once you've heard Marc Black live, you can understand why John Hammond recognized him as an "enormous talent." And why folks like Garth Hudson, Jack DeJonette, Richie Havens and Taj Mahal have recorded with him. Marc's singing is a sweet combination of mischief and tenderness. And his fingerstyle on his 40 year old Guild D40, is a perfect match.
Marc, also, composes for films and commercials, winning the Mobius for best original music in advertising for an AT&T campaign and creating theme music for the New York Mets.
His company,Black Market Music is known for an organic approach and music that ranges from blues tinged songs to world percussion to ambient experimental improvisations.
Our work features live players, often in improvisational settings where the musicians are encouraged to explore the feelings of the film we’re scoring. Marc just recently created music for Elma Garcia's film on "Magic" for the Sony/Y&R "Dream" series.
Marc's poetic songs are the basis of his live show. But that's just the beginning. He also features a rare spontaneity in performance. From the 70's down to the present day, Marc Black's chant-based songs and improvisational rave-ups have kept dancing souls movin' and groovin'. One might say that his live gigs presaged today's 'jam band' scene."
