Sequenced (MIDI) music, but NOT electronic sounding (has a live feel), based mainly in the genres of pop and rock. Started with old school rap in the 80's (drum machine and sampler), got into prog and classic rock, and currently sequence covers of pop/rock for party bands. My compositions can incorporate all those elements, but are obviously tailored to support the images in the film.
My approach is to develop musical themes for main characters and the themes of the film, and weave them within each other to support the scenes.
I usually don't use ACID/sampler loops, and prefer to create parts from scratch. My specialty is sequencing drum parts to sound like real drummers played them, as well as rhythm guitar parts with real guitar voicings.
