CELLO: sonically multifarious, improvisational; genres range from classical to the unclassifiable.
While the context is unadorned acoustic cello, the potential soundscapes include sounds that are very different from those of the perceived conventional cello. As one reviewer put it: "...coaxes weird & lovely sounds out of his instrument…Keep’s oeuvre ranges from solo transcriptions of Mozart & Pachelbel to completely improvised pieces that bring to mind everything from Throbbing Gristle to whale song." (John Lucas, The Georgia Straight, Vancouver, BC)

| The 'scary-type' sounds of the cello worked well in a suicide scene for a film I played on. The cello can sound, believe it or not, quite "electronic" - but with no electronic effects. At the same time, there is an intrinsically earthy, decidedly UN-electronic quality about it. There is something desireably irregular about the sound that cannot be achieved with midi or samples. When the cello is mixed in with with synthizised textures, it can provide an asymmetric element that gives the end a result a more "real", alive quality.
