Super sultry vocals, soulful teasing lyrics, and adrenaline pumping funk grooves are the backbone of Portland, Oregon based neo-soul band Grooveyard.
A bright and crisp new take on old school funk and soul flavors, this album is capable of leaving die hard funk junkies shaking, jazz aficionados with their jaws on the floor, suburban cheerleaders quivering, and neo-hipsters feeling satisfied, jenn’ll tell ya forces the funk on ya’ and doesn’t let up.
Fronted by vocalist and lyricist Jenn Dashney, and complemented by guitarist and band-leader AG Donnaloia, the young six piece ensemble is comprised of award-winning jazz-trained players whose combined musical experience exceeds 80 years. Think Ella Fitzgerald with Duke Ellington (if he played jazz guitar!) conducting his big band behind her big voice. Now, substitute the modern edge of Gwen Stephanie if she was backed by Tower of Power and you get an idea of the fresh sound that Grooveyard invokes.
Playfully titled jenn’ll tell ya, the group’s debut album showcases twelve original cuts that display a wide musical diversity, combining elements of funk, jazz, R&B, hip-hop and Latin flavors to arrive at a polished, powerful and contem-porary sound. With all of the colors of this varitable musical kaleidoscope, this album appeals to rock, pop, R&B, jazz, and hip-hop fans alike.
Here is an album that grabs it’s listener by the reigns and doesn’t let go until the ride is over. This is the pure, unabashed musical expression that is Grooveyard.
