A hard rocking Southern California quartet which stands out, fits in and splits your eyeballs with crisp and moody high-octane songs that fall somewhere between commercial art-goth and rock. The “answer” - depending on whom you ask and when – will range from provocative to profane to imprudent. “Daycare For Dave” - in case you haven’t made up your own yet – is the unraveled version of the abbreviated DFD. Yet with its memorable and quirky name "Daycare For Dave” in their two years of being together, have been steadfast on their path to success – moving one thousand miles an hour every step of the way. In the first few months of being together DFD rushed directly into the studio with multi-platinum Producer/Engineer MACK (Queen, Billy Squier, Sabbath, Extreme, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones) to complete three songs – two of which; “Paris Look” and “Friendly Voice” will be on their debut album named after its title track “Cut Your Eyes.” The twelve-song album is set for release in November of 2002. The band has immediately taken to clubs, local TV stations to broadcast live and continue to work on fresh material in their newly established studio headquarters in Long Beach, CA. To reflect the bands’ image, the studio has an off-kilter gothic aesthetic - complete with a black marble fireplace, a winding staircase, animal skulls and doll parts.
DFD has chewed its way through the Southern California circuit and they have etched an impressive number of notches into their belt ranging from The Galaxy Theater to The Temecula Valley Film & Music Festival. The music is an influential tapestry woven of STP, Queen and Black Sabbath. The band has occasionally been likened to Staind. From the first note, Daycare For Dave drives through you with dark and expansive rock n’ roll intelligence – lyrically and musically. Refreshingly, DFD is a band that has something to say. Fronted by the strange Chris Cas the essence of the band is one of light eccentricity and Cas’ dramatic presence suits the music well. Chris Simpson’s guitar work and arrangements lay the groundwork for the songs that make this band distinctive. He skillfully winds around Cas’s provoking lyrics, the resonating grind of the bass and the industrial mechanistic quality of Rick Hubert’s drumming. The songwriting core of this band is more than often evenly distributed – yet some of the band’s material is birthed through the collaborative efforts of Simpson and Cas. The music is a spindle of colorful and precise phrases of distortion pressed into the percussive and hypnotic backdrop of bass and drums - masterfully executed as a wall of sound by seasoned musicians Nori Iji (bass) and Rick Hubert (drums). Driving, unique, hard-hitting, robust rock n roll that echoes the aesthetic and the drama of the human condition.
While continuing to be imaginative and prolific – DFD constantly plays live, books T.V. appearances and produces new material at their Long Beach, California studio. DFD is part of the new era of electric, growling fresh and fantastic rock n’roll.
