| Patti Witten's song in Howard Dean documentary |
| Date Posted: 06/24/2005 09:09 PM Posted By: Patti Witten Views: 1009 |
Music from Patti Witten is used in the soundtrack of "Take It Back," a new documentary about the 2004 presidential campaign of Howard Dean. Also in the film are music from Patti's producer Rich DePaolo and The Burns Sisters Band. All three are recording artists from Ithaca, NY.
Months previous to the film's release, filmmaker Harriette Draper attended a Burns Sisters concert and heard them perform Leonard Cohen's "Democracy." In short order the Sisters recorded the song with longtime colleague Rich DePaolo. DePaolo and Draper then looked at more music for the film that he had recorded or produced. Eventually, the Burns Sisters' version of "Democracy," Patti's "Black Butterfly," and music by DePaolo were included in the soundtrack.
"Black Butterfly" won honorable mention in the 12th Annual Billboard Song Contest, was a Finalist in the 2003 One Plus One Songwriting Contest, and leads off I-Town Records Compilation Vol. 3.
Connecticut native Patti Witten came late to her solo singer-songwriter career but she has collected a number of honors in a short time. From Grand Prize in the Great American Song Contest with a song featuring harmonies from the Burns Sisters, to compilations alongside the likes of Steve Earle, Rosanne Cash and Tom Waits, Patti is one of the crop of emerging singer-songwriters gaining national and international attention.
