Tony Mitchell (XGYPSY music. Composer & Musician) Biography.
XGYPSY was formed in 2004 by singer/songwriter, Tony Mitchell, along with his wife Dawn. XGYPSY are a highly acclaimed writing/composing & production company, who have written, recorded & produced songs, not only for film, TV & media, but for established worldwide bands & artists. XGYPSY also helped develop bands & artists, using Mitchell’s vast amount of live, recording & writing experience. Having several albums released & worldwide touring experience with the likes of...ALICE COOPER, JON ANDERSON, RIK WAKEMAN, ALAN PARSONS PROJECT, PAUL RODGERS, TONY HADLEY, KISS OF THE GYPSY, KINGDOM OF DEADMEN, JOHN BECK & DICK NOLAN (IT BITES), BRITISH ROCK SYMPHONY, COWBOYS & ANGELS, STEELERS WHEEL 2009, JOHN McENROE, PAT CASH, JANNICK NOAH (PTA TOUR), TESLA, GREAT WHITE, WINGER & MAGNUM to mention a few.
Tony Mitchell has over 25 years experience as a professional established composer & a top session musician/vocalist with a huge amount of live & recording experience all over the world. Mitchell started at the age of 14 as a drummer in pubs, clubs & bars for bands, artists & whoever needed backing. His Father saw the potential in him & bought his first guitar & PA. From then on, every moment he had, he would devote all of his time in his parent’s basement, writing his own songs, isolating himself from those who wanted only to perform cover songs. With only one vision & dream, Mitchell wrote & recorded his own material & performed it wherever he could & in 1984, he landed his first record deal with SPIRIT records. As years went on, he was evolving into one of the most popular local songwriters in the North West of England & whilst with his band, FANTAZIA, he enlisted to government’s Enterprise Allowance Scheme as a professional composer, where he was so successful, he was asked to lecture on their behalf. There was a huge amount of interest in Mitchell at this time & former JETHRO TULL drummer, BARRIEMORE BARLOW took him under his wing & signed him to his management in 1989. Soon after that, he landed a publishing deal with WARNER CHAPPELL INTERNATIONAL & a major record deal with ATLANTIC RECORDS USA with his band, KISS OF THE GYPSY. With worldwide acclaim it was hard not to notice the song writing talents of Tony Mitchell.
After the band had split in 1993, Mitchell spent 6 months in Paris, composing with friends & top session musicians, KAMIL RUSTAM & LAUREN VERNERY, taking metal/rock/funk fusion to another level & aiming the music at film & TV. Mitchell returned home with record deals being offered but he saw his music take a dramatic turn. Mitchell always said “when writing a piece of music, I always have a mini movie in my head & that’s why composing for film & TV has always been where I do my best work”, “people always thought my music was straight out of a Lord of the Rings or Omen movie”.
Ever since then, Mitchell has been building a back catalogue of compositions of all genres, not leaving any stone unturned. 2010 saw Mitchell’s masterpiece, the highly acclaimed concept album, “BLACK RHAPSODY”, a very controversial story & soundtrack, depicting love, lust, abuse & revenge which has had rave reviews. Performing it with his band, KINGDOM OF DEADMEN, it was one of Mitchell’s ambitions, to compose, record & perform a theatrical rock piece based on his book of short stories “THROUGH THE EYES OF MADNESS” www.kingdomofdeadmen.com a screenplay has been written up and there is a possibility of making a movie of BLACK RHAPSODY.
Mitchell is one of the most imaginative, on the edge & bright composers around today. From very dark, gothic & disturbing soundtracks & high energy, dramatic earth shaking riffs to quirky, acoustic & commercial TV work, Mitchell provides it all through XGYPSY music. Not only a huge library of songs, soundtracks etc, but he composes to order too. Mitchell writes on demand if needed with or without storyboard, if there is a specific scene or situation needing composition, it WILL be done.
“It’s true that a movie can make the song but the song can also make the movie”. Take time to finger through the XGYPSY samples whether they are songs or soundtrack genres. “Share our vision, we put ourselves in the film & paint a backdrop for any visual conception, we work together as one”…
