The Shrugs are a three-piece band from Hamilton, NZ. They are Gordon Bassett, Paul Tregilgas and Geoff Doube. They have been going ten years in various formations. If you take stock in what the critics have written, their music has wandered between ‘krautrock’, ‘psychedelia’, ‘powerpop’, ‘garage’, ‘country’, and lots of other labels besides, none of which ever quite fit. But there’s always been a particular heartfelt attempt to write “a good song” behind it all, even if the exact definition of “a good song” has been a bit obscure at times…
