Calling herself a “post-punk poet and guitar hack,” Suzy Callahan is a U.K. transplant now living and recording in Bethesda, Md. She has several albums to her credit, either on her own or with the critically-acclaimed band, Devils Wielding Scimitars. At one point after the group disbanded in the late ’90s, Callahan tried her hand at acting but returned to music in 2005 to release the self-recorded and self-promoted album, Pulling All The Rind Off.
The album is a collection of rich and sensual songs with down-tempo undertones. Callahan writes about the misconceptions of love and the thought of being on some kind of “island paradise,” with something still missing from that pretty picture.
Callahan delivers soft and whimsical indie pop that showcases her strong voice. The album is thick and atmospheric.
