With their trademark sound of edgy-yet-dreamy instrumentation, this 3 pc. art-rock band blends male/female vocals, guitars, haunting strings and synth into something slightly dark, with an electro-pop touch.
Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, AutoDef is led by singer-guitarist Bradley Boyer, a self-made songwriter with music that will take you on a ride from high-energy anthems to dark dreamy ballads.
Creating music without boundaries, these three playfully blurs the lines between
ambient, acoustic, and electro-pop. Performing live with music and film, their chameleon-like creation of grandiose rock music is both endearing and inspiring.
Each song tells a very different story based around various themes: Ghosts, a love scene, wretched excess of the rich, driving through the desert, reflection, wisdom, finding your life, caring, independence, rebellion, a sinking Naval Ship, finding your captain, art, hanging around town, abuse, creativity, isolation, and symbolism.
Upon writing a handful of new songs, on a wave of inspiration, Boyer began holding weekly songwriter nights, and performed at open mics around town while holding court in a mini studio above local hipster coffee house, Cafe Coco. Add a singer actress from NY and an artistic indie guitarist/synth player, this collaboration of like minded artists is what helped shape the overall melancholy vibe.
Small events that would mean little to the untrained eye, through Boyer’s work are magnified to form a parallel to something greater in all of us. Inspired by larger than life characters such as pop artist Andy Warhol, to musical deity’s such as Jeff Buckley, and The Smiths; The Auto Defiance fully understands the power of iconography in music.
